Joan Theresa Wieczorek, née Hoffman, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, surrounded by the care and comfort of loved ones at home.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on January 9, 1951, Joan spent her childhood in Park Slope with her mother, Grace, and her father, John. She attended Bishop Kearney High School and studied mathematics at Marymount Manhattan College. She later went on to pursue a career as a Lead Systems Analyst with Home Life Insurance Company.
Joan met her beloved husband Albert in 1988. They were married and bought their dream home in Milltown, NJ, in 1989, where they raised two children in addition to many family pets.
Joan was an accomplished equestrian who competed in Hunt Seat Equitation. She had a great fondness for dogs and was involved in Italian Greyhound rescue. A woman of many pursuits, her interests crossed disciplines from astronomy to the arts, including music, theater, and ballroom dance, where she enjoyed participating in Arthur Murray events and competitions with Albert. Beyond her own accomplishments, Joan energetically encouraged the many endeavors of her children, from competitive swimming to the performing arts.
Joan’s passion for exploring family history led her to research ancestral connections to the Revolutionary War, and later in life, she became actively engaged in the Daughters of the American Revolution as a prospective member with the Jersey Blue Chapter. As a lover of community service and volunteering, she was a strong supporter of her local YMCA and other charitable organizations.
Joan is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Albert, and her two beloved children, John and Julia.
A viewing for Joan will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bronson & Guthlein Funeral Home in Milltown, NJ. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in New Brunswick, NJ, on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 10:00 AM. The family suggests honoring Joan’s memory through donations to Wreaths Across America or a charity of your choice.
