Alice Theresa “Terry” Chanda of South River, NJ passed away on February 7, 2022 after a long and complicated illness following major surgery this past October. Her final days were spent in a hospice protocol at Preferred Care Nursing Home/ Swan Hospice, Old Bridge, NJ. She passed peacefully after about a week in that program.
Terry was born in 1944 in the Bronx to Alice and John R. Murphy, the second of three daughters. She was predeceased by several years by her younger sister, Margaret, a lifelong Dominican Sister of Sparkill, OP. Her sister and brother-in-law Charlotte and Tom survive her and were at her bedside throughout her time at the hospice.
Despite many medical challenges during her lifetime, Terry managed to pursue a full 35 year career as a RN specializing in Pediatrics at JFK Hospital in Edison, NJ. Terry was a happy, very competent, dedicated medical professional who was admired and loved by all with whom she came in contact.
Alice is survived by her husband Ron, to whom she was married just short of 55 years at the time of her passing. They had two children, Edward and Julie Ann, and were blessed with four grandchildren: Quincy, Arthur, Ainsley, and Daniel. They are all flourishing.
She will be sorely missed, but never, ever forgotten.
Family and friends will be received Thursday 4:00pm – 8:00pm at the Bronson and Guthlein Funeral Home of Milltown, NJ. The funeral mass will be celebrated Friday 10:00am at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, Milltown, followed by burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hillsborough, NJ.
